The Time Has Come for Hot Cocktails November 2, 2009
Posted by Whimsy Home Decor in Uncategorized.add a comment
The days are getting colder and sometimes you need more than a hat to ward off the chill. That’s when it’s time for hot cocktails! Here are a few of our favorite recipes:
Mint Hot Chocolate: An Easy-to-Make Classic
1oz. Peppermint Schnapps, Creme de Menthe or Rumple Minze.
Hot Chocolate
Combine, and top with whipped cream or mini marshmellows.
Hot Toddy
1 oz. Brandy
1 Tablespoon Honey
1/4 Lemon
1 cup black tea
Coat the mug with honey, add Brandy and lemon juice. Make a cup of tea and pour that in last.
Mulled Cider
2 oz. Gold Rum
1 cup Apple Cider or Juice
1 tsp. Honey
2 Cloves
1 Cinnamon Stick
Combine all ingredients into a saucepan and stir over medium heat. Do not let boil. Once heated, strain into a glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick or lemon twist.
Of course a cocktail always tastes better in a fabulous glass. (Mugs just don’t cut it at a fancy Christmas party.) Try something new – like these clever martini glasses with handles! They are chic, functional and perfect for all your seasonal drinks.

Whimsy Home Decor is extremely excited to be a part of “Get Hitched, Give Hope” this year! This is an incredible event for those planning their weddings within the next year. Brides (or grooms) can bid on items or services for their wedding and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to The Making Memories Foundation. ‘Making Memories’ helps grant stage IV breast cancer patients wishes in their last year of life. The stories of those helped as a result of last year’s event are truly touching. Families were able to have one last vacation together, and a bride was able to have her dream wedding in Port Orchard.
The item and services being auctioned are not just limited to pre-wedding prep, day-of services, and newlyweds, there are some great goods for moms, dads, grooms, and friends! This is an event where you can really feel good about shopping, and it’s a fabulous party.
Whimsy Home Decor donated bride and groom ThemeNaps for the fantastic Get Hitched Give Hope swag bags. There will also be the opportunity to bid on cash towards your Whimsy Home Decor wedding gift registry. See a list of all Get Hitched Give Hope sponsors.
Tickets are still available for the event on Thursday, October 29th. It’s going to be fun, swanky event at the gorgeous Arctic Club Hotel. Be sure to dress up, invite friends and give generously!

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, finally! It’s the perfect year to throw a Halloween party. The key to a great Halloween party is childlike whimsy. Halloween is a holiday where adults can be kids again, playing dress-up and not taking themselves too seriously.
Set the tone of your Halloween party with a few strong statement pieces, creative serveware you can use year after year, and spooky details. Here’s a quick checklist of Halloween party essentials:
1. Pumpkins
Carve your own pumkins to use as table centerpieces, or if you’d rather you can paint them instead. There are lots of free templates to trace onto your pumpkin for painting or carving if you aren’t artistically gifted.
Instead of using real pumpkins, fake pumpkins are a great alternative that save money in the end because you can use them year after year. This year we have fabulous glitter pumpkins in two sizes. They will add pizzaz to any Halloween party.
2. Spooky & Fun Halloween Serving Dishes
Serving trays should be dual purpose, fun and functional. The serving dishes above have real knifes embedded in them in gruesome ways. Perfect for serving cheese or spreads.
3. Halloween Decorations
Having great statement pieces that are large scale will make Halloween decorating easy. This skeleton is fully posable, and terrifyingly realistic! Then just fill in with small details like fake spiders, Halloween swizzle sticks and candy dishes to pull the whole look together.
Next time on Seriously Fun we’ll share some fantastic Halloween recipes.

The morning fog is rolling back in here in Seattle, and summer sunsets are coming earlier and earlier. Soon the golden days of fall will be here. Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer. Why not throw one last casual outdoor party for friends and family to celebrate all the memories of summer and to welcome the crisp fall days ahead?
Choose a fun summer inspired theme, send out the evites, and toast to the last days of summer.
Summer Beach Party
Enjoy the essence of the seaside with a nautical themed party.
Decor
Timeless nautical accents will make your guests feel like they are spending the day at the shore. Adding seashells and seaglass you’ve collected this summer is a great personal touch. Using unique serveware like the shovel serving spoon (shown above) will give everyone the feeling of seashore fun.
Menu
Treat your guests to lobster, crab, steamed clams or your favorite fish as the main dish. Serve with fresh local produce like sweet summer corn, and grilled potatoes. Finish off with a classic summer dessert such as strawberry rhubarb pie or strawberry shortcake.
Drinks
Mix up classic beachside cocktails like the ‘Cape Cod’ (cranberry juice, vodka, and a twist of lime). Stock a cooler with local microbreweries summer brews, and white wine to give everyone that laid back beach feeling.
Summer Sun Celebration
Celebrate bright summer days, with all the colors of the season.
Decor
Deck your table out with bright, vibrant colors. All the colors of summer. Your guests will be inspired to celebrate the days of summer with exuberance. Add fresh fruit to large colorful bowls for an easy centerpiece. Use vases or recycled bottles to display bright, bold flowers.
Menu
Keep it simple, make it colorful. BBQ is a crowd-pleaser and an easy main dish. Serve with colorful fruit salad, pasta salad with red, green and orange bell peppers, cucumbers and other colorful veggies. Use colored pasta if you can find it. For dessert celebrate summer with a sundae bar. If you’d like more menu ideas Rachel Ray has great tips for easy labor day entertaining.
Drinks
Sangria is a wonderful summer drink that’s sure to please and easy to make. And it gives you a chance to enjoy more delicious summer fruit.
