You’ve probably heard that Pantone has deemed Turquoise the color of 2010. Shade 15-5519 TCW to be exact.  At first I had visions of silver and turquoise jewelry; very southwest.  I didn’t see how this color could be the color of 2010.

Teri, the owner of Whimsy, just returned from the Atlanta market with news that turquoise had indeed taken over the home decor world.  But this isn’t the same turquoise we saw in the 1950s or even the 1980s.  In home decor, turquoise is being used as an accent color and it is paired with bright, juicy colors like fuchsia and lemon yellow.

Home decor trends are undeniably influenced by fashion.  If a trend has been prominent in fashion for roughly 3 years, you will see it in home decor.

In the case of turquoise, I remember pictures of Cameron Diaz attending the Met’s Costume Institute Gala in a vibrant fuchsia dress, paired with bright turquoise jewelry.  That was 2007, now in 2010 we see this exact pairing in home decor.
